Hello,
A friend and I are planning a two-week stay in Scotland from July 28 through August 12. We're flying into and out of Edinburgh, and renting a car to travel around the rest of the time (we'll pick it up when ready to leave Edinburgh). We'll drive down to Glasgow and a bit further south, then on up and spend most of the rest of the time in the Highlands, including Skye, before heading back to Edinburgh to fly home. We know we'll be traveling at the busiest and most popular time of year…

In the paper today;

One in three arrests in the UK is a heroin or cocaine user

281,000 heroin addicts in England (not UK), up from 5,000 in 1975

Spokesman for Drugs-scope charity says up to six out of ten charged with an offence are hard drug addicts.

When are the government going to stop pussying around with this and protect the respectable members of society?

I'm thinking of getting the ferry from England to France, probably Plymouth to Roscoff. I haven't done this before - any tips on what they are like? If travelling during the day, are you better off getting a cabin or reclining seat?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

My brother and I are headed to Edinburgh on the weekend of Sept 23rd to see the Scotland/NZ Rugby match, and we're kind of late in booking accomodation, so a lot of what seem to be the regular hostel contenders are already full. I was hoping that some of you who are familiar with Edinburgh hostels would have input on these three, which have space:

1) Princes Street Backpackers East
2) Caledonian Backpackers
3) Globetrotters

Obviously they're not the #1 choice, or they'd already be full! My concern…

Hi!

I'm thinking of visiting E. Neuk fishing villages for 2 days (1 night). My interests are walks, eating, seeing the Crail harbour, doing the 4-mi coastal walk, seeing a fish auction.

Is it worthwhile to stay for 2 days if relying on public transportation in that area?

How reliable is the bus in this area?

Any suggestions of other sights or activities?

Lastly, any suggestions of B&B's in the E. Neuk area, accessible by bus? My budget is up to 35 pounds.

Cheers,

gtrekker2003

Is it for real? I've heard more than a few British colleagues and acquaintances talk about a sharp upturn in anti-US sentiment among young people in Britain over the past decade. I can understand how this might correspond to the events of the past five years, but it seems it was on the upswing even before that.

Hello all. Once again I turn to the wisdom of the thorntree community to help me organise a trip. This site has helped me sort out Scotland just recently, so next stop Ireland!

My parents are coming out from Australia to visit my wife and I, and the four of us are hiring a car to see some of Ireland. I have a rough itinerary, but please let me know what you think and what is worth seeing that I don't know about!

We fly into Dublin about 1:30pm, and collect our car and head to Kilkenny, possibly…

Okay - not strictly travel realted but it might have relevance to people coming to Britain.

Something happened tonight that has made me question whether British people are as reserved as the stereotypes go. Let me explain. I got the bus to my friends house in another part of the city. The bus was busy but not yet packed. An old man got on and told me to move my bag and sat next to me. There were still other seats, including a few at the front of the bus. He then sat far too close for my comfort…
