I'm a 28 year old canadian going over to england, and i'm wondering, what hoops do I have to jump through in order to work legally?
Isn't there some sort of alliance with the commonwealth countries?
Thanks,
K

At your age you can get a Working Holiday Visa
If one of your parents is from an EU country you may qualify for citizenship of that country & hence don't have to worry about visas at all
If one of your grandparents is from the UK then you may qualify for an Ancestry visa.
PS any of the above visas qualifies you for working in Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland as well as England

Hi there
The working holiday visa is definitely the easiest visa to get (unless you qualify through parents or grandparents for Ancestry Visa, British passpot or EU passport). This visa is for two years and allows you to work for 12 months of that time. Some people choose to continue working for the whole time, while others then apply for work permits via their employer or for the Highly Skilled Migrant Scheme.
A site you might find useful for visa info, job info and other working traveller-related stuff is http://www.workgateways.com</a>. Good luck !

It should be as easy for candians to work here as it is for brits to work there (proper jobs I mean, not bar work and nannying)- i.e. quite hard. That said I think there should be more of an alliance, I'd much rather we were overloaded with Canadians than the workshy criminal garbage that is filling the UK at the moment. Before any wishy-washy liberals start moaning I'm not tarring all immigrants with that brush, or even most of them, but there are far too many like it than there should be, and I don't think many canadians would be like that at all.
