Bit of a random/probably silly question but I'm flying on my own for the first time later on today from Gatwick. I have an Expedia E ticket on my itinerary I have printed out. How are these used? Do I just have to quote the reference number to the bag checkin staff? I also have my boarding passes on my phone.

I know I can ask when I'm there but any prior help would be appreciated :)

Cheers

When you present your passport at check-in the staff should be able to see your flight details and give you your boarding pass. Always a good idea to have ref number. If you already have boarding passes then you don't need to check in (unless you have bags)and just present boarding pass at security entrance. Enjoy the trip.

When you print out / save to phone any emailed e-ticket document it will generally say quite clearly "Boarding Pass" or "This is not a boarding pass".

It's very rare for me to travel without checked luggage, so I rarely bother to print a boarding pass at home ... there is no time saved by doing so. I have the PNR however (six-character alpha-numeric code).

Who are you flying with? Personally I would have checked in with the airline you are flying with before this.

Whilst Expedia are pretty reliable I would have wanted to know the airline had my booking. It also simpler to on many occasions to have checked in online.

Sorry completely missed your last bit, if you your boarding passes downloaded, you just need them and your passport.

The only important thing about an e-ticket is the 13-digit ticket number, nothing else matters. This is printed somewhere on your itinerary.
If you already have a boarding pass then this number has been found in the system and used. I assume you checked-in online. Your boarding card will have a barcode which can be scanned at the airport (by yourself at self check-in or by a check-in agent) to check-in your luggage. The barcode can also be used at the gate for self-boarding or manual boarding by agent.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D
