I have no idea when the best time is to buy tickets but I'll relate my experience with Aer Arann trying to book flights for 4 people from Edinburgh to Cork (in Nov)

Months ago they had a special on tickets at 15pounds tax. But I could have to same page open twice on two browers and it would be showing different prices (one saying 15 and the other 54!) I emailed Aer Arann about it and they said they couldn't gaurntee that that flight would even be operating as I was booking on their summer schedule and the flight is for winter! Thought that was strange but decided not to book just in case. Watched flights closely and they jumped to 44pounds + taxes. No change in prices for ages then the other night I discovered if I booked 3 tix I could get them for 31pounds each. Was going to do this and buy the 4th seperately. Went to do them last night and the price had dropped back down to 15pounds taxes and was able to book all 4 at once!

So to me it doesn't seem as though there's any rhyme or reason as to when the cheap prices are. I'd just suggest keeping an eye of the flights you want and when they seem to be a good price grab them.

The best day is the day after prices come down and the day before they go up.

Friday night ,Sunday night and Monday morning flights are almost always the fullest/dearest. Except on holiday Mondays. Pay attention to school holiday dates.
