Solo in London for Christmas--Meetup or Advice?Country forums / UK & Ireland / England
I'm planning to be in London and possibly parts of Scotland over Christmas (tentatively 12/21-1/2). Anyone want to meet up? This will be my first solo trip and my first Christmas without my family, so I'm hoping to avoid being alone on Christmas. I've never done this before. If you can't meet up, maybe you have some advice more me? Thanks in advance! Sarah
Got my copy of "Great British Railway Journeys" delivered today. Heard train ride from London to Mallaig (Highlands) is one epic journey (source seat61). I am just guessing train tickets would be cheaper around those dates. | 1
It's not the best time to be in London - or Scotland, even - as many places are shut for the holidays. However, I note from your profile that you might enjoy one or other of the Christmas services at St Paul's, or Westminster Abbey, perhaps? The downside being that you'd have to walk there (maybe) and back for sure. Although if you're confident enough to ride a 'boris bike' that might help a bit. (Check out the churches and also the bikes, on google.) Scotland - Edinburgh for Hogmany (New Year's eve) is a must. Except that you might have problems finding somewhere to stay at this late date. All public transport stops in the UK on Christmas day, and coaches don't run on New Year's day either. Museums are shut on Christmas and Boxing days. Most restaurants are closed on Christmas day. | 2
I'm off work all over Christmas and new year... I'll gladly meet up for a beer and explain to you that "Football" is played with a round ball and not an egg shaped one... If you can grasp that I'll have a go at explaining the "offside" rule to you as well... Happy travels... | 3
