Arriving May 5 at Gatwick. I would like to purchase a sim card for my android phone. I would like, if possible, a card that would come with at least 1 gig of data, and would work througout the UK and hopefully Ireland as well. A number of posts have suggested that it is better not to buy a sim in Gatwick. Do you agree? What sim would be best for price and coverage. I will be staying in the Hampstead Heath area, so, if possible, I would pick up a sim nearby. Thanks in advance

Depending on how long you're staying, you can get SIM cards on Pay-as-you-Go that last 30 days. I believe all the companies provide free roaming throughout Europe including Ireland. For example, Vodafone has Big Value Bundles for £10 that give you 1 GB of data, 200 minutes, and unlimited texts. I don't know about Gatwick, but 2 years ago I got a SIM at Heathrow and paid about 50% more than it would be away from the airport. May not be important on a £10 SIM. Also I don't know if there is any place at Gatwick to buy SIMs.
