Non alcoholic pub drinksCountry forums / UK & Ireland / England
Hello, | ||
Most pubs have at least one diet soft drink available, usually a cola. Scottish pubs usually serve Irn Bru and Diet Irn Bru (orange coloured soft drink). Fruit juices are also available, but almost as high in sugar. A cheap and pleasant option is lemon or lime squash with soda water - ask for diet for lowest sugar option. Many pubs also serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc. | 1
You will also find some particularly dreadful alcohol free beers - Paulaner, Erdinger, Brew Dog, Becks, Fosters and Kaliber are manufacturers who make some alongside their alcoholic brews and you will find these in some/many pubs in England but I cannot speak to their availability in hard-drinking Scotland. J2O is a regular non-drinkers choice which is half water, half juice and therefore a substantial rip-off. When I'm off the the booze I go for a a pint of orange juice and lemonade. | 2
I spotted this post on New Topics. I don't know a dang thing about non-alcoholic pub drinks. However, since the OP is from the US, I'd like to mention that in the UK, "lemonade" is a carbonated sweet soft drink, not lemon juice, sugar, and still water as in the US. | 3
True. Think Sprite or 7-Up. | 4
I don't like alcohol or fizzy drinks (But I do like a cosy comfy pub). So I go for tea, coffee or squash of some sort - they will always have blackcurrant or lime as mixers. Just ask for it to be made with tap water, and for either a half or a pint depending on what you want. not drinking alcohol in a pub is perfectly normal now, helped by the drink driving laws. If you can't be bothered with the 'why aren't you drinking?' interrogation, just say you are driving. | 5
I always drink lime juice and soda water. It is refreshing and not loaded with sugars. | 6
Coke, Pepsi. | 7 | |
BUT only if diet free otherwise you are loading yourself with sugar, which is what the OP is wanting to avoid. A 330ml can contains about 35g of sugar. That is over a third of your daily intake in one can! | 8
That's what I meant.. Diet Coke, Fanta, Sprite, 7up etc. | 9
You do need to specify DIET otherwise you will be givn the sugar riden variety! | 10
how about this place if you are nearby, its a lovely area too. http://www.cautleyspout.co.uk/personally i think pubs are not very good when it comes to non alcoholic drinks | 11
Or 'Zero' etc. | 12 | |
Most colas in pubs will come from the bar/soda gun and I find these sickly. Cheaper bars may use a shop bought bottle to fill your glass. Whilst Diet/Zero drinks are supposedly sugar-free the sweeteners they do use are of debatable merit regarding health - but then so is Fructose to the Western diet. Incidentally, do not assume that "soft drinks" will be cheaper than alcoholic ones - in my experience of my area a pint of lager can cost approximately £3 whilst a cola cold cost as much as £4 per pint. Lately, if I'm going through a sober phase I'll drink Erdinger Alcohol-free, Becks Blue Lager or Kopperberg alcohol free cider as I find these less sickly than colas, etc. However, do not expect any of these to be widely stocked in smaller bars. And whilst saying that, do not expect bars that DO NOT serve food to serve hot beverages such as tea or coffee. | 13
The water is nice | 14 | |
