Wondering whether there are any old style markets left in London or not far outside. I've been told even Camden Lock Market has been gentrified to some extent. I just like to poke around, maybe sort through old stuff, grab something small to eat while I'm looking, etc.
Thanks for whatever guidance you can provide!

I haven't been for a couple of years so don't know if it has changed much, but Greenwich market is nice and has the added bonus of being very close to a lovely, enormous park, museums and the observatory, if you're interested in seeing any of those afterwards. I've picked up antique books there before, but you can also get food, clothes, etc: I think what the stalls sell depends on which day you visit. I'm sure there will be timetables etc online. While I'm sure that Deptford probably wouldn't be on many foreign visitors' list of must-see places, I hear that the market is great if you want a very 'old style', ungentrified market and it's not far from Greenwich. I often hear stories about early morning visitors managing to snap up Vitra and G-plan furniture there. I agree that Camden market is now very tourist-centred and sanitised, and mostly full of teenagers. I quite like Broadway market, in Hackney (mostly for its location close to some charming canal path walks), although it is rather gentrified in parts (lots of good food options though!). I hope you have a great trip, wherever you end up!

I very much appreciate your response! I've only been to Greenwich once and then only for a short time, so you've given me reason to return. I've never heard of markets at Deptford and Broadway...looking forward to checking them out! Thanks lots and lots.

Depends on what you means by "old style". The markets to me are low cost retail platforms that sell goods for the local people.
So yesterday I went to the Crisp Street Markets in Poplar (opposite All Saints DLR) which is busy selling cheap clothes, cheap luggage and some fresh foods. It is surrounded by a 1970s estate with low grade retail stores. It is very authentic.
Rathbone Market in Canning Town however is just four or five stands these days and really they should not bother.
There is Roman Road in Bow and up in Islington there is Chapel St Market, which have fresh foods and lower priced goods.

Perhaps do a google of "Tower Hamlets Markets" or "Newham Markets" or "Southwark Markets"
