London to Leeds

Country forums / UK & Ireland / England

I have to go from London to Leeds and back the same day. This will be on Wed Sep26 and I will be staying close to Euston Station. I have to be in Leeds for only 2 to 3 hours - say 11am to 200pm.

Can anybody suggest the best way to travel ? Is national express bus service convenient? Or are there direct trains from Kings Cross or Euston?

The obvous answer is train from Kings Cross - run at the moment by GNER. A very frequent service and good fares if you book online at GNER. Journey time about 2hrs 10 minutes

Kings Cross is about 5 minutes walk down the Euston Road from Euston Station.

There is also a secondary service from St Pancras - next door to Kings Cross - which is slower and far less frequent - run by Midland MainLine.

To go there and back in a day - I wouldn't want to take the bus - even if it is cheaper sometimes.

Train's easy. I go to see my friend who is a lecturer there of an evening (probably leave around 3pm though) and he pours me on the train the same night back to London.

Yes, the train is definately the easiest. Try to book fares now if there's any advance fares going otherwise it will cost you loads on the day (maybe not so much of a concern if your work is paying for it ?)

You can also get slower (and cheaper) trains to Leeds from St Pancras with Midland Mainline
