Anyone wanting a good day out for free should go to Epsom in sw London the first Saturday of June. Free entry into the middle of the course where they have a party type atmosphere so there'll be loads of coach parties setting up their picnic tables etc in a mini-festival type shebang. You have to pay to go in the grandstand etc.

You can get to Epsom on a TFL bus pass (it takes a while mind you...)
