Dublin airport to city and back on layover - question

Country forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland

Hi - looking at the Dublin airport website and travel info I'm pretty sure this is all going to be no problem but thought I'd run it past the forum: I'm arriving into Dublin airport at 11:10 a.m. on a Sunday morning, and am flying out again at 17:20 same day. That's a 6 hour layover. Seeing the number and frequency of buses to the city centre, it should be absolutely no problem whatever for me to stash my bag at the airport and head into town for a few hours, have lunch and head back to catch my flight, right? I'm guessing that's more pleasant than hanging around the airport for 6 hours. Tell me if I'm wrong.

The buses seem to go everywhere - if anyone has a suggestion of where exactly "downtown" to get off, let me know.

Finally, it doesn't look like there are shower facilities at the airport - is that right? Kind of an odd question, but is there any place in town I can find a shower?

Thank you - Andrew

Please realise that your flight is 'Scheduled' to arrive at 11:10. It might be late.

1 Sunday schedule is slightly different than normal weekday one for the 747/748 buses. Aircoach stays the same. The cheapest busses are the regular commuter ones and their Sunday schedule is also different.
2 Are you flying out at 17.20 or is that the time you need to be back in the airport? You need to give yourself enough time to get back, if there's a big match on in Croke Park that might delay the bus for a while.
3 Best place to get off would be O'Connell Bridge area, right in the centre and you can walk to where ever you want to go. If you have somewhere definite in mind we could find you another stop.
Doubt if you'll get a shower in town unless you book into a hotel for the night OR go for a swim. Markievicz Leisure Centre is behind Tara St Dart station 747/748 bus stops there. Google it to find opening hours and prices.

At best, you might figure that you'd have two hours to wander about (after deducting travel to/from city centre, arrival back at airport, etc.).
