Camping at the end of September

Country forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland

Hi all,

My wife and I are hoping to head to Ireland for three weeks on 22 of September. We'll rent a car at Dublin airport and circle the emerald isle clockwise. We're on a bit of a budget and will stay in hostels, B&B's, and might camp a few nights if the weather permits. We'd bring a small tent and sleeping bags and don't mind roughing it a few nights to save a little money. Does anyone here have experience with camp grounds in September and October? Will many camping places still be open? Do people still camp this time of year? I know the weather is unpredictable. We would probably only camp if the weather isn't too bad.

Some campsites do close in mid to early September, partly so campsite staff can have a break after working full time through the summer.

So, worth phoning ahead to check before going off route a long way to a campsite that might be closed.

Sometimes, there are opportunities to camp in fields behin pubs etc, if you ask at bar, and buy drinks and food.
