Best restaurants in England are???

Country forums / UK & Ireland / England

What kind of food is it, why do you think it’s the best, where is it & how much did it cost (link would be great)?

Sorry forgot to allocate country...

Best restaurant in England used to be my house. Then we moved to Spain.

try www.toptable.co.uk

If you are looking for an authentic, inexpensive, American bistro then you should try these guys

My favourites are probably The Leaping Hare near Bury St. Edmunds and The Ivy in the West End of London. In London I also like The Gate in Hammersmith and Chutney Mary on the King's Road a lot.

The Ivy
Tom Aikens
Caprice
Le Gavroche
Locanda Locatelli
Lindsay House

Or take your pick from the many michelin starred restaurants there are. Costs range from £50-150 per head

Oh and as for costs...you can actually eat relatively cheaply in the very best restaurants if you don't hit the booze. Last week, lunch for three in Hakkasan (one of London's top restaurants, though I have to admit being slightly underwhelmed by it) cost about UKP80 without drinks - little more than you'd pay in much less prestigious places. But you could very easily double or triple that, or more, by adding in cocktails, lots of wine, etc.

In Berkshire,

The george in dragon (near kingsclere), the berkshire arms (does the best veggie tart thing) . They are both pubs (does that count?) but do excellent, imaginative, good priced, homemade food.

Also there is a really good place near kintbury, but can't remember the name.

Personally I've had really great food at Gordon Ramsey's, Caprice, Nico at Ninety, River Cafe, etc etc, but I dont know the links offhand .
As you seem to want menu, address, prices and link why don't you try www.toptable

The Fat Duck. Restaurant of the year 2001 by Michelin, owned by Heston Blumenthal.

I haven't been (yet) but when I do, I'll be going for their tasting menu (desert; NITRO-SCRAMBLED EGG AND BACON ICE CREAM)
