Hello,
I will be backpacking for a year with my partner starting from July in Spain and heading out of Spain at the end of August/ beginning of September this year. We plan on taking £10,000 (5k each). After Spain, our budget will probably be around £8,500 (We have family there we can stay cheap, hence not that much to stay in Spain for 1-2 months)
We have a plan of backpacking through South East Asia starting around January (best for weather etc). However, the problem we have is what we do before then. At the moment we are thinking of 2 options.
Option 1
Australia for 3-4 months travelling/some work to not tarnish all our savings. After SEA we would then either go back to Australia or do Japan-China-India or visa versa
Option 2
India-China-Japan and then, depending how long we decide to stay in India/China to Australia or straight to SEA.
We are leaning towards option 1 as if we go straight to Australia we will be able to travel with good weather and then work to replenish any money we need. However, we are cautious to this as we understand Australia can be expensive and the worry is all our savings will be blown in Australia and we wont be able to go to anywhere else for a long time due to our budget being cut.
Our plan is a bit vague, I know, but this was a decision to just go now or we never would. I would appreciate some guidance and comments on our route from anyone with experience backpacking or just in general regarding the budget etc.
Thank you.
