Hi,
I am arriving in Glasgow on a Saturday afternoon around 2.30pm in June, and want to cram as much in as possible before everything closes at 5pm. There are so many arty things to do and so little time - do I go to the MCA, the CCA, the Kelvingrove or the Burrell collection? Or do I book in for afternoon tea at the Willow? Or do we just walk up and down Sachiehall St? We like looking at all sorts of art, but mainly contemporary art. What is a good thing to do between 5pm - 7pm? As we will…

Hello All,
My friend and I are taking a trip ultimately to London, but I am flying in to Edinburgh on Saturday June 6th and don't need to be in London until Wednesday June 10th.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I might do/ where I should go? I want to see a little bit of Scotland and not just stay in Edinburgh.

I have a few questions-
Should we take trains, or should we rent a car?

A possible idea is-
Saturday Day 1 - Arrive in Edinburgh at 11am Saturday. Explore. sleep there.
Sunday Day 2 -…

I will have a car for 9 (!) days - pick up in Inverness, return in Edinburgh. The one disappointment is that we will miss the train rides from Mallaig south to Glasgow and between inverness and Kyle of L., but hey, the trains will be there next time.

We were wondering what driving routes you not miss in terms of beauty, awe, splendor etc - especially in the highlands north of Inverness. We'll be doing some car camping and day hiking, as well as hosteling.

The VERY loose plan is:

To Ulapool…

I am visiting Edinburgh, Scotland in the 3rd week of June and have a couple of days to spare. Have sort of worked out a driving trip to discover more of the country. Please advise if the following makes any sense... or if whatever i am doing is too much in too less a time.

Day1 - Leave Edinburgh and go to the Trossachs/Loch Lomond via Sterling. Night around the national park.

Day 2- Drive to Glen Coe on A 82 , onwards to Fort William and then through A86/A9 to Pitlochry

Day 3 - Back to…

My route is Aberdeen to Lerwick by Northlink Ferries, then Lerwick to Kirlwall before getting back to mainland Scotland.

I see that there are 3 companies running service between Orkney and mainland Scotland.

My question is should I skip John O'Groats and Dunnet Head and push it on the Inverness?

Please advice

Hello,

I have a very practical question, but I'll also toss in my plans to see if anyone has any thoughts. On Thursday I'm heading to Scotland for about 2.5 weeks. I arrive in Edinburgh and will have about 5 days until I meet my girlfriend in Inverness. I was planning to do some camping and thinking that the Cairgorms are a good pick, since I would be able to get to Inverness pretty quickly. Is 4-5 days a good amount of time to spend in the Cairgorms in the summer?

The alternative would be to…

Hi all,

I've blundered into a week's wild camping and walking in the middle of midge season, the first week of July to be exact (it's too late to change the dates - Ive booked flights!). Now I have to decide where to go. This will be my first multi day hike, so I'd like to take it relatively easy (ie 10 miles a day and no scrambling if possible)

I've whittled it down to two choices:

Glenmore lodge, Loch Avon, Glen Luibeg, Lairig Ghru (which worries me slightly), Rothiemurcas

or

Corrour…

Hello there,

I am planning to do a hiking trip around Inverness - therefore I have 6 days time, starting this thursday... do you have any proposals what could be nice up there? I am travelling with tent and particularly looking for nice small, rocky fisher villages , but open minded about any proposals!

I only have to get back to Inverness on 21st of May :-)

I am curious about your proposals!!

Thank you very much and all the best from Germany

Thomas
