Hi, am thinking of visiting Scotland for a week at the end of April and am looking for interesting places to visit in the way of beautiful scenery, forests, ruins, castles, good walks/hikes
Not really a touristy kind of person.
Would also like to stay in a castle if anyone can suggest one.
Cheers

So, you're seeking exactly the same things in both Scotland and Ireland, yet can't use the Thorn Tree search facility?!? I can't be bothered to help - the info is already available.

I'm sorry that I'm not such an expert user, it's the first time I've posted an enquiry and I'm trying to decide whether to go to scotland or ireland so any information I was to receive could possibly help a fellow traveler in making an educated choice and to get opinions of places rather than just reading what's available. I also don't have a lot of access to the interent so I can't spend hours surfing the net.
Thanks again for your positive approach.
Copepod,
you are 1 sanctomonious twatter. It wouldn't even have croseed your half-mind to consider this is a new person on this forum.
Perhaps spend less time critiquing and more time introspecting.

Using the search facility would have shown up many previous posts by myself and many others answering the question for both Scotland and Ireland. It did sound like an enquiry by a lazy travel agent, who are often new posters. So, I hope that Scubaskydive will read the FAQs thread, which encourages new users to read the FAQ thread through and to use the search facility.
A week in either Scotland or Ireland at end of April would be good - but don't go to both, as you won't get a feeling for either. I think I'd favour Scotland over Ireland, due to longer daylight hours and it's before the midges get active.

If you are after beautiful scenery, you can't beat the Isle of Skye. The train or road trip from Fort William to Mallaig is spectacular as well.

Thanks for the posts..

Many Scottish castles provides accommodation along with the tourist packages. Go for that...

If you have a look at the www.celticcastles.com website you'll find a full list of Castles in both Scotland and Ireland that offer accommodation. I'd recommend Dalhousie Castle near Edinburgh as a particular favourite.
