I'm trying to find a good way to make most of my summer by going to Scotland. Maybe I'd wanna do something different than just travel around. And I'm a student. What would you recommend? Do you have any personal experience?

There maybe conservation programmes you can go on - volunteer for a weekend or a week, rebuilding stone walls, clearing footpaths that sort of thing or maybe even WWOOF. (Working weekends on organic farms) - I expect there are some Scottish participants.

If you want to spend a bit of time working as a volunteer for a charity in central Edinburgh, doing stuff that would help improve your English as well, send me a private message. (It's the one I work for - I don't speak for it, and this is my real name, so I don't want to say what it is publicly, but you can check it out easily enough).

Why not try grouse beating?? its hard work but a fantastic free way to get taken into the depths of the scottish hills with experienced game keepers. We went for a week and got paid £25 a day for our efforts!
You'd need to get in contact and arrange ahead of time as it is very popular with european students. Its hard work but well worht it if you get the right estate.
