I am planning a trip to Scotland this summer and was hoping to cover the following destinations over the course of seven days. Do you think this itinerary can be done in a week and, if so, how much of it could easily be covered by relying only on trains and coaches? Also, do you think it would be substantially cheaper than if we hired a car for the week instead? There are two of us traveling together. Also, let me know if there are any must see destinations between the below specified places. Thanks!

Proposed itinerary:

Glasgow
Edinburgh
St. Andrews
Speyside area
Stirling

Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Stirling have good train/bus connections. Suggest you use them and possibly book early to get cheap fares. Going by car will involve negotiating cities and finding somewhere to park. Speyside is different. Suggest you get to Aberdeen and rent a car for the day. Whether you can do it in a week depends upon how long you intend to stay in one place. Most of above journeys are two hours max and can be done in an evening saving daytime for city visits.
