Hi Everybody

We are so happy to have a chance to visit Scotland in May

We will approach Edinburgh from the north (east) and need to leave the region also to the north (west). We don't like the idea of driving in the town with the car. Can you recommend park & ride possibilities to park outside the "city traffic" and use public transportation.

I was looking a www.edinburgh.gov.uk, but haven't found parking lots in the very north of the town...

Hoping for help

thanks in advance

Tom

Look up bus routes here

The centre of Edinburgh is horribly confusing if you don't know it, particularly at the moment while they're building the tram system and re-routing everything, so I think this is a good idea. Outside of the centre parking is not too restricted. If I were doing this I would look up the public bus routes and then find a side-street near a suitable stop to park in.

If you looked on www.edinburgh.gov.uk did you find this?

If you want something in the absolute north you'll have to park in the shopping carpark in Leith

Of those park & rides, Sheriffhall probably has the best bus service into town. It's just off the ring road.

are you coming from Dundee or N. Berwick
you could park at the airport and take the bus
into town
info Edinburgh airport BAA.CO.UK EDINBURGH

Isn't parking at the airport going to be a lot more expensive than the park and rides?

There's a park and ride by the airport

If you are coming from Dundee then leave the car in Inverkeithing and get the train/bus.

As Jumblina says, what local people do is find a sidestreet to park in and then get the bus into town. This is why you can never find a place to park in Edinburgh, or even park outside your own house! If you're going to do this then make sure its not a street where you need a residents permit otherwise you will get a parking ticket. Sheriffhall is probably your best bet, I wouldn't park at the airport or Inverkeithing.
