Hi,

I'm visiting Scotland for 10 days (8 days Highlands - 2 days city) and am looking for interesting places to stay for two days each time which will make a good base for discovering the area. I was thinking Glencoe for the area between Oban and Fort William, Portree for Skye, Ullapool for the northern part and Aviemore for the east / Grampians. Is that a good idea? Any other suggestions? B&B's to recommend?

Thanks!

Morag's Lodge at Fort Augustus is a great facility in an interesting area.

I liked the Coolin View B&B in Portree when I stayed there last year. And the views from the windows are spectacular!

I'd personally recommend Torridon over Ullapool if you're interested in hill walking and hiking. The Torridon Youth Hotstel (SYHA) is great. There's also a few B&Bs in the area as well (http://www.ferroch.co.uk/ looks pretty nice).

It depends what you are doing in Glencoe - some hillwalking ? Fort Augustus is a cute place to stay and a night there and a night in Aviemore would be good, no need for 2 nights in FA.

http://www.visitscotland.com/ and do accommodation search and it will bring up LOTS of choices and if you click on 'more info' on each property, it gives you there personal website.

I would have 3 nights on Skye, so you can have 2 full days sightseeing and then leave on the 4th morning to your next stop.
