Hi Everybody

In May it will be my second stay in Scotland - this time with my girlfriend, after I visited the Badminton Championships (Sudirman Cup) 2 years back in Glasgow. This time we like to travel through the country and look at the incredible nature we have seen on pictures by ourselves.

Where I would love to get advice from you is regarding great food. "Great" doesn't have to mean expensive, but good, home-cooking restaurants or taverns where you would go by yourself, because of the great food.

I am very experienced traveling to the US and know quite some web pages, who collects tips regarding those restaurants, but I am not aware of any of those sites for Scotland.

Could you provide me with dining tips or links to those websites?

Where are we staying:
South of the Trossachs (close to Drymen)
Kilchrenan (but a tip for the Oban or Glencow region would be great
Uig on Skye
Locarron region
Ullapool region
Orkneys
Inverness
Gateside region (south of Perth, west of St. Andrews)

It would be super if you could provide me with many tips.

The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool does nice, relaxed meals (I think it's mostly or all veggie). Other than that I don't think I found anything much in Ullapool itself - an OK chippie by the seafront if you don't mind the midges!!

You don't mention if you have a car - although I'm guessing to get around those places you probably do... in that case it might be worth a trip along the coast to Achiltibuie, there is meant to be a great restaurant there (I've not eaten there myself, but others have mentioned it).

I've not been to Lochcarron, or not eaten there at any rate, but it's well worth a trip from there to Applecross, which has to be Highland foodie heaven. The drive is well worth it for the seafood at the Applecross Inn, absolutely delicious and very reasonable. When I was there a couple of years ago there was also a place at the campsite which did very good pizza.

Not sure about websites, but my folks have book called 'Scotland the Best', which gives lots of tips on the best places to eat.

It might be a bit off your route but The Drovers is well worth a visit for the home cooked food and the full grown stuffed grizzly bear that greets you as you get inside.

around Loch Carron, the aforementioned Applecross Inn is good.
the beautiful village of Plockton is worth a foodie visit in itself, as the Plockton Inn (pub) and Plockton Shores (restaurant) both serve excellent seafood

Inverness has probably the best concentration of good restaurants of any city in Scotland, relative to its size.
To name just a few:
Rocpool (on Ness St next to the Bridge)
Rocpool Reserve (Culduthel Rd - now run by Albert Roux's team. We ate there last night)

Confusing, but the original Rocpool team has split up so there are two separate places

The Kitchen
The Mustard Seed
River Cafe
Corner Grill
are all excellent but pricier places

some good coffee shops, bakeries, cafes, butchers and delis too
Google those names and you'll get some good results. Also TripAdvisor has a review page on Inverness restaurants

I was in Orkney last year and was mostly eating at private houses or fish and chips but we had a very good meal at The Barony
