In case you are really interested in a skirt, as stated, my wife and I bought
her a real scots skirt (NOT a kilt) at the old Jenners at 28 Princes Street.
We can testify to the quality, it still wears like new 23 years after purchase.
I understand that a "Fraser" chain has now purchased Jenners and is in
the same location, their quality is not known here.

Oh yeah, OP, if you are still around, a Sottish tourist board website or a guidebook will tell you the tourist sites/sights in Edinburgh.

My favourite place is the National Gallery complex in Princes Gardens - it has a wonderful collection of idealised rural Scotland from the time of the industrial revolution, some of which have a breathtaking use of light.

Greyfriars Kirkyard is pleasant enough and the tours can be interesting. The Greyfriars Bobby story is quaint and I'm sure beloved of many tourists.

I like St Giles church. It is pivotal in British history because of Jenny Geddes (or the myth of Jenny Geddes). Google and Wiki (okay, treating Wiki with the care Wiki should be) will help tell you why more clearly than I could. And it is a beautiful church.

A follow up on my posting 10 above: my wife and I visited the store
"Jenners" at the same location in January 2010. It has truly changed
enormously since its acquisition by "House of Fraser". It is NOT a source
now of quality Scots merchandise, including a Scots skirt. I withdraw any
suggestion of looking there.
