Hello,
I am going to go to Scotland in August. Unfortunately, I can only travel Edinburgh.
First, which places do I have to see in Edinburgh?
Second, Where can I buy traditional scottish skirt, and which price?
Thank you,
Faruk

Lucky you. Edinburgh in August is very exciting, with all the clowns, mime artists and jugglers crowding the streets. I hope you've booked accomodation already, or you may end up sleeping in a park and it can be quite damp, if not so cold.

Traditional Scottish skirts can be bought almost anywhere, along with traditional Scottish tea towels, haggis and boiled sweets. Just follow the crowds and pay as much as possible for a good one.

Do you mean a skirt or kilt? The kilt is one men wear (these days mostly soldiers and men going to weddings or similar parties) - since you have a man's name, I assume that's what you want. A good one is NOT cheap and the difference between a good one and cheap one is obvious.

Geoffrey Tailor and Romanes & Paterson are two reliable firms for the better ones.

I suggest you find teh biggest burliest football supporter you can who is wearing aforementioned skirt and say: "Love your skirt, where did you get it, duckie?".

Get a guide book for what to see since we have no idea what you like.

#3. Nae football supporters in Edinburgh.

The same shops that rip off tourists in Edinburgh, also sell in other shops around Scotland, and on Ebay, at locals prices. If you want quality, you want a kilt made from 8 yards of tartan. Not 5.

If it's just a souvenir, try Lidl (discount supermarket - German no less).

And if you can, try and squeeze in a visit to Loch Ness. Not forgetting your camera, just in case.

Hearts. Not scary supporters though. But if Celtic or Rangers are in town...

I'm going with everyone else and guessing you mean a kilt?

There are some good quality bargains, but they will take a bit of shopping. Brand new and good quality you will be paying around 250GBP.

Top tip would be to go to one of the proper shops mentioned above and look, feel and try on a kilt, then go to one of the "tourist" shops and do the same.

You will notice the difference straight off.

The "Lidl" kilt isn't a bad idea, as it is decent quality, but not too expensive - it is otherwise known as a "drinking kilt"!

Edinburgh has more kilt shops than you can shake a stick at. Despite being a Scotsman myself I dont wear kilts so couldnt tell you what ones are reputable but I'd imagine a lot of the ones on the Royal Mile (main tourist drag) will be vastly over priced

Indeed, uberteeb. All the locals buy their kilts from Tesco on Leith Walk.
