My friends and I will be in Ireland for New Years and are trying to decide where to spend it. We're looking to stay out of Dublin and head somewhere smaller but still lively. We were thinking of somewhere on the west coast, like Kinvara or farther south, like Limerick or Kilkenny. Does anyone have any good suggestions or have any ideas on what these places will be like for New Years?

Can anyone recommend a nice (and reasonably cheap) hostel/B&B/hotel etc in Dublin?
I´m looking for a double room that is close to the main attractions.
I will be there for only 2 days at the end of November, so don´t want to spend those days getting buses everywhere.

Can you also recommend whats great to see and do in the city.

Did anyone catch this American Reality show last night? The teams has to go to the Aran Islands and then Cleegan to pick up some clues. My favourite was when they landed in Shannon and then each caught a cab to Rossaveal to catch the ferry to Inis Mor. What's that, about a two hour drive if you're lucky...

I’ve got an odd question and its not really related to traveling, but it does have something to do with Ireland! :-)

I’m doing a project on how Irish people interact with each other in both the work place and everyday social situations. (yes, we all know how much we like to drink and puke and eat burgers.. but this is a little more than that..)
So to be more specific (and boring) the main topics I have to cover are:

I'm not sure if this is the right branch. I looked at the Experimental Travel branch but even there people ask mostly for advice. Anyway, I'm talking more about Ireland than the rest of the world in this case.

How come? Because I keep wondering why people plan their travels to Ireland (and practically to any other country) so meticulously. Every accommodation, every sight needs to be confirmed as worth while. If it's not in any brochure/book/film/posting it doesn't exist or it's not worth looking…

Has anyone ever stayed there??? Is it good value??
We are searching accomodation for three nights later this month (22nd-25th) and most places are already full on saturday... Any other options worth considering? We've already checked Avalon, Burnacles, Four Courts, Litton Lane...

Hi, we are flying to Dublin on Nov 8 and will spend 7-10 days there. Then we will have another 15 or so days to tool around the island. Absolutely no plans yet.
