HI,
My Parents are going over to Ireland for a month to celebrate their 60th birthdays. They are hiring a car and have a vague plan but keeping it pretty open.
As a present all us kids are wanting to organise for them to visit an island off the Irish coast, and also accommodation in a great B&B somewhere.
They like their own company, dont like crowds, would prefer something quiet, natural/close to nature. they like walking and getting up early. and the irish culture (if it was an island with historic sites... i know there's alot)

So just any suggestions about what Island people recommend. I have been googling for Hours and they all sound lovely- so any recommendations would be great!
Thanks

Places we like include Rathlin Island off the Antrim Coast. Excellent for bird watching including puffins. Good coastal scenery including views to the Scottish west coast and in particular Jura. We used the Manor House and found it excellent. Ferry from Ballycastle.

Likewise Tory Island which is Irish speaking. Indeed you may be welcomed by the King of Tory though it is only a titular post. We have only stayed at a very simple B&B close to the harbour but there is a small hotel. Excellent walking trails and a feeling of being out into the ocean. Can be problematical in bad weather and we have been stranded overnight so leave a contingency day in case even at this time of year.

Aranmore also off has Donegal coast, ferry from Burtonport, is larger but some wonderful walking. Alas the lady we have used in the past no longer does B&B but there are a number of places . Again Gaelic is spoken.

Clare and Inishbofin also come to mind along with the Aran Islands the last being quite touristy now. Certainly worth at least a couple of nights on any of the above. We were always sad to leave.

Note that puffins go away early in August.

Very true Iviehof. We tend to be roaming around these islands in June and I did not adjust for the seasonal migrations.
