I'm planning a trip to Tory Island and want to stay the night, however I'm having trouble finding websites or email addresses for any places to stay. I've found a list of places (I'd like to stay at the Tory Hostel for the sake of price) but all I've been able to find are phone numbers for them. Does anyone know is there's an alternate way to contact these places for reservations?

THANK YOU!!

I imagine places on Tory are likely to be family B&Bs and probably not so likely to have websites. Why do you object to phoning them? If you use Skype or a similar internet-based service, it's actually not very expensive.

I can find a website for the Tory Hotel, http://www.hoteltory.com/ - but not for the hostel. There's a phone no. for the hostel on http://www.oileanthorai.com/AccommodationServices.htm but I note that while that site says (IHO) after the hostel name, the IHO website does not list this as a member hostel.

I think you're right, I may just have to phone them. I was just apprehensive because of the cost and because I've gotten conflicting instructions about how to call Ireland internationally. Thank you so much for the link for the hotel! I searched "tory island hotel" on google but never found a website. I will be brave and try to call the hostel, haha. Thanks for your help!

Try skype - probably a lot cheaper than using your landline let alone a mobile.

To call Ireland from the US you need to use the international access code, which it seems is 011, then the international dialling code for Ireland, which is 353, and then the Irish number without the first zero. (If you see an Irish number of only six or seven digits, then it is missing the local area code, which you will also need to add.) You may be getting confused because lots of Irish sites list a number beginning with 00 - this is the international access code when calling abroad from Ireland or indeed from any other EU country, but seemingly not from USA. So the Tory Hostel no. given on the Oileán Thorái website is 00 353 (0)74 91 35920 - but I think from the US you will need to ring 011 353 74 9135920.

If you're using Skype it will sort out the international access code and country code for you and you just need to put in the Irish number.

Hope that helps!

Oh, and of course, because Northern Ireland is under British control, if you are also calling numbers there, you will need to use the UK country code of 44 rather than the Irish code of 353.

That's exactly what was confusing me, it makes more sense now. Thank you so much!

Hope it's not too late but you can't beat Grace Ann Duffy's B&B 00353 (0) 74 9135136. Wonderful peopel and wonderful Irish hospitality. Clean, comfortable and amazing food. Very reasonably priced.
