A friend and I are arriving in Westport on October 15h and are planning on making our way to the Cork Jazzfest at the end of the month. Any advice for places to visit along the way. We want to spend a couple of nights with friends in Gallway but otherwise are open to anything!

As regards sightseeing , Go out through connamara if you have time, it would be a toss up between going out around clifden or finding roads along the lake mask and lakecorrib bringing you to galway city(both great trips though). on your way down through county clare you could drive through the burren and visit the cliffs of moher and the ailwee caves. I would not stop in Limerick for scenery. In around tipperary go to the rock of Cashel, very mpressive old monastery, great views. In Cork the Jazzfest will be great, but if you have time for the best scenery in Ireland go out through the mountains of both Cork and Kerry, fantastico. enjoy guys

It depends on how you are getting there.

If you are planning on hiring a car, #1 give you a craicing itinery. If you are going by public transport its slightly more difficult. You might be better off catching a train to Dublin (able to cover more ground on foot/public transport). Else go straight to Cork, and around the jazz weekend take a couple of day trips around Cork and Kerry and see places that way. Inland there isn't a lot to see....or at least I don't find it terribly interesting

Thanks for the advice. Right now I'm debating between public transport and renting bicycles. I was thinking riding bikes from Wesport to Gallway wouldn't be too bad a ride
