Plan for Sept is Carrickmacross and then over to Donegal, Mayo and Galway.

One of our party hopes to purchase some Waterford Crystal. What I'm wondering is, by the time she pays shipping and VAT, which I understand we may not be reimbursed, should she just plan to buy it in the US since our itinerary doesn't take us to Waterford. Or will she save considerable money and can we also purchase it in the west somewhere? Thanks for the help on this.

Second question - are there laundromats in Ireland like in the U.S. - self serve laundry facilities. We're staying in B*Bs but I don't see any of them mention washer/dryer available. We may be handwashing?

You will get a refund on V.A.T. bought on goods
but not services.

There are lots of places to buy Waterford Crystal. It is worth remembering that only a minority of Waterford Crystal is made in Ireland.There are some stores which will automatically reimburse you for purchases at time of purchase (for example, I have done this at stores in Nassau St Dublin on producing passport and evidence of departure).

Ireland has self-serve laundromats/laundrettes, a little online research would have told you that.

Ireland has plenty of laundry mats. Drop your cothes off in the morning and pick them up up dried,folded and in a bag for about 10euros

As poster #2 responded, "only a minority of Waterford Crystal is made in Ireland". If you go to Waterford, don't expect to find crystal made there.

If you do buy, (and you are not an EU member) let the sales person know you will file for the VAT. My wife received a card with a magnetic strip. She used the card to add on additional purchases. At the Dublin airport, they have machines, (and a desk) that was used to read the card and the refund is put directly upon the purchasing card.

#4 is incorrect. If you go to Waterford do expect to see crystal made there. Expect to find it available for purchase in the shop. Expect to see it being made. Don't expect to see a lot of it though.
