Planning on walking in the west country for a couple of weeks. Wondering in anyone has experience with walks they've done: Dingle, Beara, Western Way (Galway &/or Mayo), walks in Donegal? Plan to backpack and have been advised that farmers are generally willing to allow you to tent in a field. Any thoughts, experiences, insights, suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, We did the dingle peninsula with Southwest Walks Ireland and would highly recommend them and the Dingle Peninsula. I'm from Galway and have spent lots of time in Ireland. I would suggest a day break in the midst of your walk (we did so in Dingle & went out to the Blasket Islands). Re; backpacking/tenting. The weather is extremely fickle (just talked with my aunt in Galway who said they have been having two days of rain following a couple hot sunny days. The B&Bs that Southwest Walks set up are pretty cheap &, good news, you only have to carry a day pack, they send your luggage ahead to the next lodging.

Farmers..and others...are very gracious and accommodating, but I'm not sure I'd want to camp with sheep poop etc.

Lots of nettles, too...

Hi,the cheapest accommodation is carried on your back.If you`re happy to carry a tent, sleeping bag, food and cooking equipment. There are commercial campsites with facilities in Tralee,Dingle,Castlegregory and near Camp. All Irish land is privately owned and you should ask permission to camp.(Move on after one night).
