I'm trying to plan an escape away somewhere and have been looking at flights from Romania back to Dublin. The flight I'm interested in arrives at 2330...... which leaves me a little stuck at Dublin airport as I need to head north (car will be staying at home.)
So my options would seem to be:
1. Crash in Dublin airport until a sensible time in the morning to get a bus via Newry to Downpatrick (@0820)
2. Crash at Dublin airport until getting bus to Belfast (@0500) then bus to Downpatrick (@0730)
3. Get earlier bus (@0120) to Belfast and hang around in everywhere closed Belfast til bus to Downpatrick.
4. Pay out at least £60 to get a shuttle/taxi plus hotel room somewhere at Dublin Airport.

(I suspect if I'm waiting on a bus at 0500 or later I may fall asleep while waiting)

Downpatrick isn't quite my destination but as close as. I'll be backpacking so I don't want to be throwing money around if I can help it. I can sleep on the bus, which is about 2 hours, and I'll probably have slept on the flight (moving transport... lucky me has really no problems sleeping!). I don't have to be anywhere when I get home so can catch up on sleep then.

So what option would you choose?

I do something similar to this every so often as I also leave the car at home while exiting Dublin airport. It's relatively easy to stay awake in the airport as there a number of coffee bars open upstairs where you can have a drink or snack and do a little reading - and not much chance of falling asleep as the dreaded announcements about leaving your bag unattended wail out on a regular basis!

I would choose option 4.

sigh Or, I suppose I could fly to London, but the flights and tube/trains will work out more expensive than the £60 for a hotel room in Dublin. I really thought getting out/in of N.Ireland had become easier! LOL. I better go get the flight out booked or else this query will be moot.

Ta.

Where in Romania, what date and even what time? ThomasCook and Thomson periodically fly Belfast to/from Bourgas on the blacksea coast.

Alternatively, you could fly Bucharest Otopeni to Stansted with Ryanair, then Easyjet from Stansted to Belfast.

Or you could fly Bucharest Otopeni to Luton with Ryanair or Wizzair, or fly Cluj to Luton with Wizz air, or fly Bacau to Luton with Blue Air - whichever option you choose it's then Easyjet from Luton to Belfast.

Ta for all the replies. I've finally found some flights at sensible times and a reasonable price. happy dance
Bucharest to Gatwick (easyjet), then gatwick to Belfast City (aer lingus). Leaves initially at 1150, arrives Belfast at 1935, assuming no delays. That gives me plenty of time to get a bus in the direction of home (I live out in the sticks which is what gets me stuck so close to home but not quite!)
