Hi!
Does anyone know of used car yards in dublin that take older cars?
I have a 1991 ford fiesta that i want to sell in November .
ideally id like to hang on to my dear little beast until a few days before i leave so Im trying to find a car yard in case a private buyer falls through.
Id like to sell her around the 17th of November though it is negotiable if anyone out there is interested
shes great mechanically and has NCT until april 08. I'm asking €550 but will consider any offer around that price from a private buyer
: )

Oh dear! I'm afraid you won't get rid of your car on this road. Not for 550 anyway. Everyone will just recommend to scrap it. Nobody in Ireland, where the latest model is a must, would spend money on a car that old. The used motor market over here is over-saturated, with everyone trying to get the latest and most fashionable car.
I have a 1991 Nissan Sunny myself, and I've been adviced by a good friend who is a mechanic, that I should get rid of it after the NCT (July 08) runs out.
My car is great too, but who wants an old banger, when there are plenty of second hand tourist rental cars around?
Try www.buyandsell.ie. Someone who needs parts might be interested. Or someone in the country who just needs some cheap wheels to go from field to field.
Good luck!

I would agree with #1. There is no market for old cars at the moment in Ireland.
A friend of mine, who is just back from Australia, bought back the car she had originally sold to a dealer 18 months ago! He had been unable to sell it in that time.
I was lucky I managed to sell mine a couple of months ago - but mine was 03 and a really, really good car. I had tried buy and sell, but no go.
Try putting a flyer in Tesco or Dunnes notice boards. Thats where all the immigrants look for things, and your car would probably be their budget. You might be lucky and get a sale there.
