Unfortunately the whole site is closed just during my next week's visit... I am very disappointed about this fact, because I realized the rock as one of the higlights of my trip toireland... Do you think, Cashel is still worth the detour just to take a look to the rock from distance? I'm planning to go from Kilkenny to Galway...

I've never been to the Rock of Cashel but there are plenty of other mediaeval sites in Ireland you could visit instead.

Clonmacnoise in Offaly is on the way from Kilkenny to Galway. There is an interpretative centre neraby.

The Rock looks impressive but not really worth a detour just to view from a distance. Better divert to Clonmacnoise as #1 suggests

Looks like you may not even be able to get that near it - apparently only residents are being allowed enter Cashel town at all and all other traffic will be prevented from leaving the motorway. I hope we don't have any more British monarchs visiting for a while, it hardly seems worth the extraordinary security arrangements (much and all as I understand the reason for these).
