Wondering if anyone has stayed at Old Monestary Hostel or Letterfrack Lodge outside of Connemara National Park? Old Monestary Hostel is reviewed by Lonely Planet and has mixed reviews on other travel web sites, and the other, Letterfack Lodge, appears to be new and possibly without charm. Same price -- looking for a way to decide and would like to hear from anyone who has been there. LMcCarthy in New Mexico

i stayed at old monastery august last year. it has a lot of kitschy charm, a bit like staying at an older eccentric relative's house! its comfortable enough, breakfast was good (when i went, anyway), plenty of common areas to meet other travellers, and places to relax with a book when its raining. the bathroom let the place down though, it was poorly lit, damp and constantly had a wet floor. not the best, not the worst either. definitely different!
