Hello! Planning a two week vacation in Ireland (I leave in one week!) and am wondering if it is all "meat and potatoes" ... Will I have a hard time eating in pubs? I do eat seafood (pesca vegetarian).

Thanks in advance! :-)

You won't have any problems. Virtually all bars and restaurants will have a veggie option (usually pretty grim overcooked veg with lots of cheap melted cheese on top I'm afraid) and a fish dish. In some ethnic restaurants you may want to confirm with the staff first - occasionally something with no meat in the description will have something like crispy bacon added as a garnish. Occasionally vegetable dishes will be cooked in bacon fat, so ask about that too.

As #1 says, it won't be impossible, though in smaller towns and villages the choice may be pretty limited - I hope you like cheese and onion toasties! :) Near the sea of course you will be spoiled for choice, and in the cities you will find a lot more veggie options everywhere. Incidentally, if you are visiting Cork city, be sure to eat at Cafe Paradiso - one of the best restaurants in the country, full stop, and 100% veggie. A wise idea to book though a day or two in advance is fine.

Just be glad you didn't choose Argentina - the veggie cafe we tried out of curiosity in BsAs was perhaps the most hilariously bad place I have ever eaten in my life...

Hey,

Yes I am a pesca veggie too and had no problem. There was a fish dish on pretty much every menu. I had amazing fish and chips in Dublin.

I had no problems throughout but I visited just the bigger towns and cities.

Depending on how strict you are regarding cheese (rennet) you may find it easier to ask for meals without cheese.

Then again, maybe that's not a problem anymore. I just know if there's one thing people will get confused on in lots of places (not just Ireland btw) it's when you ask if the cheese has animal rennet.

Edited - sorry, didn't realise that this thread was over a week old since the last post. Ooops brought it all back to the top of your list!
