lol

One of my favourite places in Ireland are those where you don't encounter such smedding rubbish.
On the other hand I love a good argument and a verbal bashing.
It's better than war. And you can pop popcorn ...

Back on topic:
I recently discvovered East Cork as a place to be, from Ballycotton to Whitegate. Near Cork City but out of the city and the usual tourist world. Not spectacular but with the ould Oirish charme.

And even more recently I enjoyed the remoteness and strangeness of Co. Offaly, especially Slieve Bloom, the biggest spread of forest in Ireland, including all the misgivings (and advantages) of the un-touristy true rural Ireland.
Really off the beaten tracks, but at least without all the 'interpretive' stuff which are a complete rip-off imo.

Yes, what is the reason for all the shagging interpretative centres? Wastes of money and intrusions on the landscape, IMO.

We should open a thread about rip-off Ireland... one of my pet hates ...

Especially the new Cliffs of Moher Centre - a complete waste of money (more than 30 million euros to demolish the magic of the cliffs for commercial purposes, only to fill up the accounts of those involved) and by now a put-off to all tourists with a brain. Even the bus drivers complain.

Without being anti-American as such, but truth is that only the bus-tour-Americans consider the new 'interpretive' centre as an 'awsome' sight - according to the reply of the management to my complaint as their translator and a travel book writer.

Even I wonder if the Americans are that easily fooled - or if the Cliff-management just is delusional.
They depend on each other though...
