You're so right fear_ rua. The 1st time I almost died in Ireland is when I've had a near head collision with a mad lorry driver, who was happily driving downhill in the middle of the steep narrow road near Killorglin ...

But of course, in the Irish countryside one drives rigorously on the middle of the road. Naturally this system is somewhat inferior to the mainland one of driving on the right, or the UK/urban Ireland one of driving on the left, when it comes to coping with two way traffic, but such traditions are not to be cast aside for the sake of minor technical issues.

:)))

I did find myself driving in the middle of the road in Irish countyside. But not on steep hilly narrow roads when at least one other driver was upcoming. That lorry driver was certainly a local taking pleasure in freaking the hell out of tourists, as her pulled over litterally 2 seconds before the head collison (I could not pull over, cause me and my car would have falled down quite deep...) ... ...

The Burren
My favorite driver was the Petrol truck on the class C local road in Connemara. Me arm is still bruised from where the missus dug in her nails in hopes of making the road wider....

I'm one of those crazy irish drivers i'm afraid. I always drive down the middle of country roads..... its what your meant to do. Its less dangerous then hoging the side of the ditch. The secret is to slow down near corners (duh!)

Dundrum Shopping Centre? Sweet Jesus, you like that monstrosity that has parked itself in the middle of my native district and spawned acres of tarmacadam all around? Dundrum used be a nice enough spot, now it's turned into a godawful enormous mall surrounded by tons of roads going nowhere.

Ah, Dun Laoghaire County Council... such a good rotten borough they got to destroy a quarter of Co Dublin as well!

Dunquinn (tip of Dingle Peninsula)
A mountain I don't know the name of near Allihies, Co Cork- the one with the signal towers

Hey tigersphan, when you finally figure out that Dublin is not part of the British Isles, come give your opinion. Otherwise the Scots are welcome to ya.
