don't think theres any quick way of doing it, just head into any branch (aib or bank of ireland the most numerous) with id and a bill i suppose. check www.aib.ie for details

So is there no way of doing it before you get to Ireland???

II don't think there is a way of opening an account from abroad, Irish banks will need some valid photo id (passport, drivers licence etc) and proof of address such as a utility bill, if you don't have the latter a letter from your landlord confirming you are at the address usually will suffice.
