Hallo there,
I will be going to ireland (Jan.)and plan to spend two weeks in the south west!
I will bring a tent, but i'm still wondering if most of the hostels are open!?
I think of hiking and hitchhiking around that area!
If you guys got any tips or great places,hostels,hikes-go ahead and let me know!
I will bring my cell and I was wondering if I can find a cheap prepaid card in
Ireland!
Thanks
Chris

Hostels - Google gives http://www.hostelireland.com/hostels.php You'll need to check each place where you consider staying, and check dates, too, as hostels may be open weekends only.
Now, you can Google for prepaid SIM cards for mobile phones (not called cell phones in Ireland). Plus, there are phone boxes!

There are three network operators in Ireland: O2, Vodafone and Meteor, plus 'virtual' networks that use one of the networks for infrastructure, but put together their own service and tariffs. You can find numerous mobile phone shops selling SIM cards - they normally cost from around 10 euro with some credit, and you just top up when needed. Ireland uses GSM on 900 and 1800MHz, and 3G on WCDMA (also called UTMS 2100). Make sure your phone is unlocked and can hadle one or more of these bands.

I'd recommend Vodafone. A couple of months ago (not sure if it is still the case but I'm guessing that it is) they were selling sim cards for 10 euros. If you then register online they give you 10 euros worth of credit. I couldn't register online as the system wouldn't acknowledge my PUK number - assuming this was because it is an Australian phone but I went into a store, explained this, asked them to do it for me and I still got the free credit. Not sure where you are planning to call but calls/msgs within Ireland seem to be average compared to other providers and overseas rates are quite good.
