Hubby has said he is willing to buy me an apple ipod classic for Christmas. problem is we live in Northern Ireland and getting hands on one is proving to be very difficult. Argos which is supposed to be stocking them and is advertising themj in their Christmas guide doesn't have any, another store does but it's in a town which we can't get to due to transport issues and Argos don't have facility to transfer stock from one store to another. The other shop in town which sells ipods was supposed to get the classic 2 weeks ago but didn't. Buying online isn't an option as hubby is concerned about safety of details. I am thinking of contacting watchdog and any other official body which I can think of to try and force companies into making products available in Northern Ireland. It really annoys me when I can't get goods as Northern Ireland is part of the Uk. It's the United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland. Hubby wants to get it next week when he gets his wages as he'll be getting paid for the overtime he did a few weeks ago so will have the money. If anyone knows of any shop in Belfast which has stock then I'd like to know.

You ever thought that it's actually the shops that decide what they do and don't stock and as such Watchdog and whoever else you decide to go and moan to will just laugh at you?

OP, try PC World.
Failing this do you not have Curry's or Dixons in Northern Ireland?
As for buying online I do most book, CD, DVD and gadget buying through Amazon - never had a problem. There is provision as I remember to enter so much of your card number online and the remainder by telephone.

Don't know where up North you're living, but in the link below you'll find plenty of shops which sell ipods.
ipods up North
Otherwise try amazon or ebay, even if hubby is concerned about safety. No need to, millions do business over the net, and amazon and ebay (through paypal) are very safe.
And don't get up the wall because you don't get what you want now and here (or wherever you're living). If you live somewhere without any transport to a major town, ask a neighbour with a car to give you or your hubby a lift to the next bus stop. All busses in the North are going to Belfast anyway. Sure hubby will have some change for the bus fare left to buy you your Christmas present.
Sorry, Cate, but it's called the free market. They can sell what they like where they like. No, and I don't like it either. FWIW, if you live in rural England you have the same problem. FWIW (2): I've been buying regularly off Amazon for three years now and my card details seem to be as intact as ever. Amazon is usually cheaper than the local shops too and the service is excellent. Normally the goods arrive here the day after I place the order.
Amazon prices.

"Buying online isn't an option as hubby is concerned about safety of details."
well in that case don't ever pay for a meal out on a card, or drop a petrol station recipt as thats much more likley to be the source of card theft

Didn't TK maxx have a whole bunch of customers credit card details stolen?
They were customers who had shopped in store and the company had their card details stored on a computer in the states.
So don't shop anywhere!

many credit cards now include an extra security feature where you are asked to enter your details and a password, before you make an online purchase you will be asked to enter your details to verify you wish to make the purchase.
I'm sorry, but I can't see the problem with buying online. Amazon is as secure as you're going to get. I've bought shedloads of stuff off t'interweb without any problems whatsoever - including expensive sunglasses & iPod accessories from the States.
You'll get it much cheaper as well - which means he can get you something else with the money he "saved"...
