I have been to Dublin once before - it is nice city and I stayed at the hotel Judge Darley
I am thinking of visiting Dublin or Cork for New Year celebration - have not yet decided
can anyone recommend a Hotel in dublin or Cork (3 star or 4 star) ?

Last time I was in Cork (October) I was impressed by the Imperial - since its refurb, the best of maybe a half-dozen hotels I've used in the city.
Jurys Inn Parnell Street is my favourite. Get there early, say you're a smoker, and you'll get a 6th floor room with views across the Rotunda...
When I got into Dublin a day early for a study abroad thing we stayed at the Christchurch Jury's Inn. Pretty decent place. Friendly staff and quite close to all the action, few block walk really.
I stayed at another in outside of Dublin, but the name slips me and it was also a 5 star.
The Maldron at Parnell Square is pretty nice. It used to be a Comfort Inn, but they've done a good job of sprucing it up. I stayed there last week and got a phenomenal rate of only 57 euros a night.
in Dublin Temple bar hotel is really nice and central. The Clarion in Cork is on the quays which has been redeveloped over the last few years so is lovely place to stay in Cork.

I second The Clarion in Cork. It also houses the best restaurant in the city, namely Augustine's. The €25 tasting menu is probably the best value dinner to be found in Ireland. They also have a BYOB policy with a €10 corkage fee.
The Maldron at the Grand Canal in Dublin is a nicer than the one near Parnell Square. Probably more expensive, but accommodation is currently extremely cheap in Dublin so it won't break the bank.
