Hello,

According to the travel.state.gov it is difficult to exchange $100 bills in Ireland.
http://dublin.usembassy.gov/service/financial-services/exchange-100-bills-in-ireland.html

I am wondering if anyone has recently had issues with this? Or if you found banks outside of Dublin willing to exchange them?

We are traveling throughout the southwest of Ireland next week, and am wondering if I should bring cash(large bills or small) or just use ATMs from the get-go. Ideally, I'd like to avoid using credit cards for payments of any kind.

Thanks!

100 dollar bills are fine. as are ATMs.

You'll have no probs at all.
Just use ATMs if you can though. Theyre widespread and less risky than carrying $100 bills around everywhere.

it surely is an issue as you've already pointed out
so leave your usd's behind and bring your credit card
just remember to tell the card provider your going to
Ireland on vacation before you depart.
enjoy your trip.

Yes, there is an issue with exchanging $100 bills. Some banks will only do this if you have an account with them, which obviously you don't.

You might get a better rate withdrawing from an ATM anyway, although you'll want to find out what kind of fee your bank charges for this.
