hello all,

we are travelling to Ireland in August and have a basic itinerary which includes south and mostly west coast. Total time we have is 2 weeks.

Included stops are:

Kilkenny, Rock of Cashel and Ring of Kerry

Glendalough

Co's Clare and Galway, Burren and Cliffs of Moher

Dingle Peninsula

Bru na Boinne

First of all, is this too ambitious a schedule?

Secondly, we have hired a car and would like to know suggested travel routes and websites that have road maps.

Sorry if these are loaded questions or even redundant.

Thanks in advance.

The car-hire company will most likely place a thorough map in the car...

Hi OP. I wil be a little more helpful, you've got me in a good mod, glorious sunshine in London, Friday, allegedly (according to someone of the BEEB news this morning) the happiest day of the year.

Two weeks for this kind of trip is fine. This will help with planning, routes, times and so on. August is a busy time to travel (der!) so add extra time for traffic tailbacks roadworks on the M50 and so on.

I don't know where you are based but pick up a big road map book and a big fold out map of Ireland to help plan. If you are in London I would sugest visiting Stanfords in Long Acre Lane in Covent Garden or Blackwell's in Charing Cross Rd or even Waterstone's in Picaddilly.

I guess your route goes Boyne, Glendalough, Kerry, Dingle, Galway/Clare or maybe Boyne, Galway/Clare, Dingle, Kerry, Glendalough but the link above will help you make your own choices.

The OS Complete Road Atlas of Ireland is the best map you can get
http://www.osi.ie/en/starticle/ireland-series.aspx
Well worth getting it for €12 instead of messing around with print outs of the country. You'll get it in bigger garages, possible the airport bookshops or bookshops in Dublin like Waterstones (dawson Street), Easons (O'Connell Street)
