From near Dun Loaghaire, is it better/faster/cheaper to drive to Belfast or take a train from Dublin. Please factor in cost of petrol, parking if I leave the car near a train station, parking in Belfast...

Any information is helpful.

The Enterprise train will take you from Dublin Connolly to Belfast in about 2hrs 10mins, however the train can be expensive, you will be looking at about 50-70 euro depending on the day of the week and the time you go. To get the exact fare check our www.irishrail.ie. The national bus company Bus Eireann (www.buseireann.ie) will be a lot cheaper.

Starting from Killiney / Dún - Laoghaire take the DART (train) into Connolly Station where you will need to change to catch the train to Belfast or a 2 minute walk to the central bus station to get the bus to Belfast.

Depending where you buy petol you shuold expect to pay between 94-99 cents a litre.

Enjoy!

Unless you need a car for whatever reason (shopping in NI like everyone else in the ROI?) , you're better off on the train. Are you just going for an afternoon or staying overnight? Train will be direct and no need to worry about parking, traffic, etc.

The car will allow you to stop off en-route at your leisure, but the East coast isn't that exciting compared to over on the Atlantic.
Enjoy your trip.

Get the bus up to Belfast if your trying to save money, much much much cheaper than the train (though a bit slower though obviously traffic at peak times makes it worse), bus leaves from Busaras which is beside Connoly train station (where the train goes from) and arrives at Europa bus station (which is where the train arrives as far as I know).
If you drive there's a good park and ride system in belfast.

car robably cheaper but the train is comfortable and convenient. if you wanted to drive nice places to see along the way are:
carlingford
silent valley and mourne mountains
could head out to ards peninsula from belfast, portaferry, portglenone
