Another distance kinda question. Would it be reasonable to make day trips from Ennis to Connemarra, Galway, and Dingle? I didn't plan this trip, kind of an add-on. Accomodations have been paid for in Tulla for the week so adding on overnights would just be more $$. But these are places we'd like to see. We've rented a car and can start early in the morning. Leaving a week from Friday. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

It's doable, but you will be sitting in the car an awful long time.

From Tulla to Ennis it's 20 min. by car, from Ennis to Galway depending on traffic 1 1/2 to 2 hours, from Galway to Connemara 1 to 2 hours, depending how far into Connemara you go and stopping and sightseeing not included.

From Ennis to Dingle (take the ferry) it's about 3 to 4 hours, sometimes more.

I recommend you choose either Connemara or the Dingle Peninsula, but not both.

Perhaps it's self-evident, but by saying "not both," I meant it's not possible to do both in one day.

I've done a day return trip from Dingle to north Clare and the Cliffs of Moher. If you leave right after breakfast and get the ferry you'll have a good day. Seeing all your places in one day would be a marathon drive though ;)

Thanks for all the advice. But to clarify, I didn't mean doing all this in one day. I meant a day to Dingle, a day to Connemara, etc. From what you've all said it does seem reasonable. Right?
And since i have your attention, any suggestions for other things to see/do in Co. Clare?
Thanks again!

As you're based in Tulla you could visit Spancil Hill, the source of the famous folk song ;)

Well, you are right next to the Burren which is always an amazing place to go for a walk. It might be at the end of its floral season, but if I remember correctly, that season ends with the Mediterrean orchids blooming in the fissures.

Ehm, there isn't really much to see in Spancilhill, just another faceless auld village. Comes only to life during the horse fair, when you hardly get through the road towards Ennis because the farmers park their massive vehicles left, right and centre ... grrr ....

By the way, Ennis to Galway might take only one hour. I live near Tulla, next village, and take usually the scenic and lonely Lough Graney Road via Gort. I need about 70 minutes (but then I'm used to the roads, know my way and drive a bit faster ...). I don't remember how long it took up to Clifden from Galway, but I do know that it was an easy daytrip.

I did Dingle as a daytrip, too. But that was in summer with very long evenings. Remember that it's getting dark around 5 pm in November. And I was shattered after coming home.

Oh, and since you are based in Tulla you will enjoy a cheerful atmosphere in town. Tulla won last sunday the senior hurling championship (Clare or Munster? Don't know really) for the first time since 1933!

I've been shopping there today and people were still standing around at corners and discussing with big smiles the match. Flags and buntings all over the place. Everyone was overwhelmingly friendly, and at the butcher's at Super Valu I've got a huge bone with loads of meat on it for my dog on top of my humble purchases. They are usually not that generous. I'm sure the atmosphere in the pubs is still full on party, and will be so until Christmas. I mean, after 74 years winning a hurling match, that calls for celebration for at least 74 days ...

Have fun!
