I am planning a trip to Ireland with/for my 79 year old grandmother, because of her limited mobility I thought the best thing would be to hire a car. Based on Lonely Planet's guidebook it said I only have to have held a licence for one year, but all the sites I'm finding say a minimum of 2 years. I am 25 so I don't know if it's just assumed I've held it for more than 2 years.
Our trip is already set for early September, so waiting until I've held it for 2 years is not an option.

Does anyone know of a company through which I can hire that doesn't have the 2 year minimum?

The best thing to do is email the rental company.
good luck.

Try Avis. They're not the cheapest but very good, and my partner rented a car from them on a "new" British licence (i.e. he'd swapped his NZ licence for a UK one but even though he was an experienced driver it appears like you're a new driver)...

I rented cars with less than a year under my belt from Enterprise. This was however in the UK rather than Ireland however they were always good to me and didn't mind the lack of driving experience.

Good Luck and I'm sure you'll be fine - as yofletch suggests - give them a ring that way you'll know!

Check with easytourireland.com and see what they say. I have rented from them and been pleased but I am WAY OVER the age of 25 and had my DL for eons!
