I will be in Dublin for 3 days and looking for a B & B ideally that is in a good location to the main activities but also safe for a single female. Any ideas?

Also would appreciate any must see sites or activities I should do in 3 days. Wish I had more time but Dublin and surrounding towns will be all I can get in it looks like. Suggestions?

PS I did find a great walking tour takes me outside of Dublin but due to it being off season we need a minimum of 4 "hikers" to do the trip. 9K mostly all day adventure on www.walkaboutwicklow.com - Any one interested in joining I will be in Dublin Oct 16-18?

Arranmore House in Drumcondra. Close enough to city centre to walk during the day, bus stop outside for night, trips, including to and from airport. www.arranmorehouse.com
Check out previous posts / FAQs for detailed itinerary for Dublin. Enjoy.

Certainly recommend a day trip to Wicklow! One hour and your in beautiful wild landscapes. Places of particular interest are Glendalough, Luggala, Powerscourt, Avoca, Sally gap, Glenmalure, Lugnaquilla etc. Wicklow is beautiful and has mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, ancient sites, colonial estates and plantations etc. If you want to hook up with similar minded people then maybe you should join Couchsurfing: http://www.couchsurfing.org/.

They have a "Hiking In Ireland" group on this. People always looking for hiking team ups!

Many B&Bs in Dun Laoghaire:

This is a great base for Dublin and Wicklow (google earth it). It's on the seaside, has 2 pier walks, promenade, nice view over Dublin Bay. Biggest marina in Ireland, decent cafés and a nice Sunday market. And the DART electric train only takes 20 minutes to city centre. It is very well set up! If you are in that area at some stage then check out the famous "Vico Road" area between Dalkey and Killiney. Scenic and glamorous!

Re Dublin City attractions, well what are you looking for?

While Arranmore House is more then likely a good b&b, Drumcondra and Dublins North Inner City is not an ideal first impression of either Dublin nor Ireland. It's dull and can be grim if the weather is bad. South City Centre or Dun Laoghaire for sure. "Windsor Lodge" in Dun Laoghaire is an exceptional b&b. 5 minute walk to DART station. Beside sea with views. Also beside the famous "Forty Foot" bathing / swimming area and the "Martello Tower" made famous by James Joyce writings. Walking distance to cafés, shops, pier, marina etc. You will not be disappointed!

There's a hostel on Aungier Street in the South City Centre called "Avalon House" . Excellent hostel with all the facilities. Even have their own café! They have single rooms! And they will provide you with info on all the Dublin and Wicklow attractions. Short walk to, Grafton Street shopping area, Temple Bar area, Georges Market, cool cafés being Simons Place and The Metro amongst others and the likes of Trinity College and the Guinness Hop Store / Gravity Bar.

I think if you read your situation over again, you'd realise that staying in a B&B is about the worst option for you.

You need to stay in a backpackers (hostel) where you will meet plenty of people who'd be interested in getting out with you, as long as you make the effort to connect with them. Better still, hostels will usually organise lots of activities that specifically create the opportunities for solo travellers to meet up and enjoy themselves.

As I always say to people, travelling solo isn't about being alone - but isolating yourself in a B&B or hotel will dramatically reduce the chances of meeting people.

I agree 100% with barryhennessey, hostels are more fun, informative and you will meet new people up for travelling to surrounding areas etc. Check out the Avalon House.

This will help sort out what to do in Dublin in terms of sights although a list of your interests would have been helpful.

I'd agree with the hostels suggestions.

I'll be in Dublin from that time and I've been looking for some sort of hiking tour that goes outside the city center. I'm traveling solo (first time!) and I've only booked accommodations for my first few nights (until oct 13th). I'm staying just outside of Temple Bar, right near all the main tourist attractions of Dublin.

Not sure where I'll be for the 16th-18th but I'm sure I wont be very far. I agree with the others, sounds like you wanna start searching for some good hostels. Sounds like a fun way to get out of the city!
