I'll be in Dublin for the week for a conference and sightseeing.

Budget business hotel - any recommendations? Simple, clean and with WiFi. Small is okay. Must be close to the university downtown.

Possibly interested in a hostel if I can get a private room and not have to deal with 20-dumb-thing idiots running around.

Also, should I be booking now?
Are there a lot of tourists in Dublin in August?

Thanks.

I don't understand 'university downtown'. I don't think the airport Travelodge is walkable/close to anything which might be 'university downtown'.

August is still tourist season and Dublin is one of the few places which get close to full capacity. D4 hotels are maybe walking distance. The Jury's Hotels are popular business hotels but again they might be a bit more of a walk although the Christchurch one can't be more than 15 min walk from Trinity College (if that's what we are talking about).

By downtown University do you mean Trinity Colledge ? If you look up www.bookings.com you will find loads of cheapish Hotels and B+Bs on Lower Gardener street ,which is just a 10 minute walk from Trinity and 5 minutes from the main O Connell street.

The OP could also be referring to NCI in Mayor St, down in the Docks/ISFC. Jury's in Parnell St is also close enough to walk to Trinity within 10 mins.

I thought they meant Dublin City Uni, it didn't occur to me they might be on about one of the others, my bad.

Yes, Trinity Dublin College.

I booked 2 nights at the Central Hotel. However, I will need to find a new hotel after that. I ll check with the link above and jury's.

Thanks

OK, if it's Trinity, ignore my advice, sorry.

If you are going to try booking.com then also try trivago or hotelscombined as they compare travel sites, including booking.com and prices do vary between sites/
