Hi,
My family and I will be flying into Dublin in the beginning of October for six days. Besides our arrival and departure dates we have nothing planned. Does anyone know what the weather is like during that time? Also, could anyone write up a sample itinerary for us? We are mostly interested in the scenic countryside and castles and less about golf and touristed sites unless they are a must see. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

The only thing that is predictable about Irish weather is that it's unpredictable. You're likely to get some dry sunny days in Oct but just as likely to get wet ones too. Either way it will be coldish, especially at night. There has been some talk of snow for the end of Oct but that's insane so hopefully they are wrong. Do the 6 days include your traveling days? If so that only gives you 4 full days so I wouldn't venture too far as Dublin itself needs about 2 days if you're interested in seeing what it has to offer. If you like scenic countryside you definitely have to include the Wicklow mountains national park, including Glendalough (monastery, graveyard etc.). From there you could head to Kilkenny, nice town with a great castle. The rock of cashel in Tipperary is worth a visit but you may not have time. Other places that may be of interest near Dublin are Newgrange (google it), Carlingford and the Mourne mountains region.
hi
as post 1 says if you only have 4 days to travel/see sites you are best advised to spend maybe 2 days seeing sites around dublin - Guiness Storehouse, Dublinia, Christchurch cathedral, Temple Bar, Trinity College (book of kells), Dublin castle, Kilmainham Jail,
A day trip to Wicklow including Glendalough is a must do going by your interests...many tour buses leaves from outside the Gresham Hotel on O' Connell street approx 9 in morning.
I would suggest Newgrange be a must see as well...5000 year old neolithic passage tombs ...about 45 mins from dublin.
hope this helps

Take in the small coast road to Torr head and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge on the way frm Dublin to Giants Causeway.
In Donegal outside Derry drive up the small road to Grianan fort which has some beautiful views.

Disagree with #4, don't drive all the way up to Northern Ireland to see two sights.Donegal is too far in this time frame. Assuming you do have six days or so, spend a couple in Dublin, and then stick to Killkenny, Rock of Cashel. Or over to Galway too, if you feel ambitious. Check out the OPW sites on heritageireland.com to see what lights you up.
