Hi,
I am an Australian citizen with a working holiday maker visa. I am arriving in the Uk at the end of September. I have been to the UK many times before and I am not fussy about the location in which I work. Can anybody provide info or share experiences about finding work and share accommodation in areas that are not so expensive?

You can Google (sleeping in parks).

What sort of work are you looking for?

I lived in the UK for 5 years on a UK ancestry visa and based myself near Crewe in Cheshire. Cost of living there is much lower than Manchester, but is an easy commute (45-60 mins by train) and Manchester pays well (much better than Crewe). However it's not a good bet if you are looking for pub work because most pubs want staff who can commit for a long period of time, and this may not suit if you are on a WHV.

Basically, the closer you are to London, the more expensive it (generally) is. Similar price bumps (albeit not so large geographically) exist around the Glasgow/Edinburgh corridor, Manchester, Birmingham but are nowhere near as bad as London.

I recently moved to London, and managed to find share accomodation within a few days through gumtree.com
I didn't search for work through them, but believe they also have employment listings which may be of assistance.
