On a recent trip to the US, I perchaced some GHD hair straightners, which was a bad idea because GHD being a British brand anyway, they're slightly cheaper to buy in the UK. Anyway, I have a transfomer (American to European voltage and up to 100 watts), I was about to plug the straighteners into it, and then I thought I'd better wait and not risk frying them, coz if I can't use them here, at least I could use them on future trips to North America.

The straightners are below 100 watts, so will it be safe to use with my transformer, or will they fry? They're 50 watts. Also, will using them with a transformer have any effect on the preformance?

Thanks

OP - Wouldn't you be better off posting on a electrical website?

They will be fine, stop worrying! Worst case, you blow a fuse.

Anyway, check the rating on the actual appliance, it may say 100 - 250 V, then you wouldn't even need the adapter. As it is a heating element, you probably wont be so lucky but check.

100 W is the max output, not a fixed figure. It wont force 100W into your appliance. You can use anything upto 100 W in it.
